This weekend, June 23, is the Noche de San Juan, a Puerto Rican holiday celebrating the birth of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Capitol. All over the Puerto Rican beaches, evening celebrations start by gathering at the local beach enjoying food, music and dancing. At midnight, everyone walks backwards into the sea and falls into the water. They say if you do this 3 times you will have good luck all year.
There are other ways to celebrate of course and the weekend starts tonight with an artisans marketplace in the Rincon plaza at 6pm, with local arts and crafts.
Saturday is International Surfing Day and the Rincon chapter of Surfrider Foundation is celebrating with a gathering at Domes Beach. Surf or Paddleboard, a beach cleanup and a bbq. 9am to 1pm.
Saturday night there is a DJ and dancing at Sole Beach Club at 9pm, a classical piano trio at the Horned Dorset with dinner, live music at Calypso Cafe with Barrio Grande, 8pm and live music at Tamboo with a full moon party.
Finish the weekend up with a concert on the beach at the Rincon of the Seas by the Orquestra Filarmonica de Puerto Rico starting at 6pm. (787)823-7500. And of course celebrate Noche de San Juan with a midnight ocean dip. If you are in Rincon, you're already having a good year!
